Tip of the Week:

STOP! LOOK! and LISTEN!

When stumbling over a word of phrase in your voiceover session.  Do not just start again.  First STOP at the error place, LOOK at the words in question, and LISTEN for direction on where to start again.  In the trade...it is known as a pickup and your self directed STOP makes you look like a pro.

Remember..."Wherever you go...there's VO!"

Tip Last Week:

"THE PAUSE THAT REFRESHES."

Not an original suggestion to be sure...but...in the world of voiceovers it works.  At the end of every sentence in your vo script take that "pause," Count silently to yourself  1-2..then start the next sentence "refreshed."

It works..really!

Previous Tip:

CONSIDER THE THREE W'S
:

Who am I?  Who am I speaking too?  What am I speaking about?

If you use the three W's as you study your copy/story you can give the story/product more meaning.  And as a sage once said .... "plan your work...work your plan!"

Previous Tip:

THE TOOLS OF THE TRADE!

When going to the recording session...whether an audtion or the JOB...be armed with a #2 pencil, a bottle of room temperature water...and ALL  of your talent.  An attitude of gratitude is also...very helpful.  Enjoy and applaud your success!

Previous Tip:

MIND YOUR MANNERS!!

Arrive at your session on time and ready to go.  Be courteous to all you meet.  In the studio, go directly to the mic.  Be GOOD...be MEMORABLE.  At the end of the session be gracious and thank all those present..  Leave your business cards and go..do not lollygag.

Previous Tip:

When given a call for a live audition, arrive at the location at least fifteen minutes prior to the call time.

Pick up your copy and leave the room.  Find a quiet place where you can grasp the job ahead of you.  Read the copy aloud a couple of times...then read it again.  Then, return to the waiting room and get ready to hit the mic running.  You ARE ready.
